The research for knowledge is as old as man. Efforts had been made, since the existence of mankind to establish the reasons why some situations that we find ourselves from time to time are the way they are?.
In order to avoid informal and unsystematic approach to decision making, we need to adopt an approach that can prove it's ability to find applications to our decision making process and this process of finding a reliable approach is through a medium tagged Research, now let's try to define Research.
In 1996 Burdens and Abbot described research as "the principal method for acquiring knowledge and uncovering causes of behaviour" it's a general believe that you conduct research when you first identify a problem and then systematically set out to collect information about the problem and develop explanation and making meaningful decisions on the problem.
Babbie in 1986 identified Methodology as a " sub- field of epistemology, which is called the science of finding out". He tries to suggest that the research seek more information about those situations that are known to us and those that are unknown.
According to Mason and Bramble (1989) research can be defined simply as "the search for answers to questions" in other words, when we ask the questions " when" "where " "what" "who" and "how" with a view of giving answers to these questions we are conducting a research. Also, Cohen and Manion (1980) describe research as the "systematic and scholarly application of principles of science of behavior to the problems of man within his social context".
Finally, Leedy (1974) says research can be defined "as the manner with which we solve knotty problems in our attempt to put back human ignorance. With all this definitions, research is known to be the method of acquiring needed relevant information based on the interest of the researcher in line with what is being researched.
